Things You Probably Didn't Know About Spring Equinox
Happy Spring equinox! Today marks not just a shift in seasons but a celebration of nature's rebirth and the magic that comes with longer days and warmer weather. As we bid adieu to winter's chill and welcome spring's bloom, let's dive into some fascinating tidbits about this day that might surprise you!

Ever heard of Spring Fever? That giddy feeling of wanting to run outside and embrace the world once it starts getting warmer? It’s not just a myth! It's a cocktail of hormones literally rejoicing at the sight of spring, making us all a bit hopeful, optimistic and adventurous!

In addition to adding a pep to your step, the equinox is also a day of earthly precision. Only on the Spring and Fall equinoxes does the sun play a perfect game of east and west, rising and setting in a straight line. Archeologists have found that the Great Sphinx of Giza aligns perfectly with the equinox sunrise, along with other ancient wonders like Chichen Itza and Angkor Wat. How cool?

Lastly, you might’ve thought that equinox was just an Earth thing, but did you know that Saturn has it’s own as well? The major difference is that you'll have to wait a bit longer for those, given they occur every 15 years.

So, as we embrace the joy and renewal that spring brings, let's marvel at the wonders of the world (and beyond) that connect us to the rhythms of the universe!
The Argument For the 'Right to Roam'
If you’re an avid hiker or explorer, you’ve likely felt the urge to roam freely, soaking in the beauty of the natural world without hitting a "Keep Out" sign. And you're not alone in craving that liberty. There’s plenty of debate over the ‘Right to Roam,’ especially when it comes to balancing the scales between private land ownership and public access to nature's wonders.

Scotland is one country lucky enough to boast a ‘right to roam’ law, that lets people wander with respect across their diverse landscapes. It allows people to connect deeply with their environment, improve their health, and foster a sense of responsibility toward protecting their natural home.

But, venture south across the border, and it's a different story. England and Wales have stricter rules, with many areas off-limits unless you've got the landowner's nod. It's a sharp contrast that brings to light how varied policies can be, even within the geographic area.

Access to land isn't just about enjoying a good hike; it's a crucial factor in reducing social inequalities and reconnecting with the environment, especially for those in urban areas who might feel disconnected from nature's rhythm. When we're allowed to explore, we gain insights into how land is used (or misused), which is essential for holding those in charge accountable and advocating for sustainable practices that benefit us all, not just the few who own vast estates.

So, whether you're in a place that champions the right to roam or fighting for more access to the great outdoors, remember, it's about more than just a leisurely stroll. It's about health, equality, and understanding our impact on the planet.

Celebrate Spring With a Plastic-Free Picnic
Spring is here, and what better way to celebrate than with a delightful, plastic-free picnic with friends? Gone are the days when picnics meant a pile of disposable mess. We're here for the memories, not for leaving traces in landfills. Here’s how to do it.

First up, embrace the beauty of reusable containers. Whether it's a reused sauce jar or a metal water canister, let your food travel in plastic-free style. You can also use cloth bags instead of plastic bags to bring along sandwiches, fruit or other treats. Speaking of food, remember, homemade is the way to go—it's kinder to your wallet and the planet!

Next, ditch the store-bought ice bags. Invest in reusable ice packs to keep your treats cool and your conscience clear, or just use the ice you’ve got in your freezer. Now, onto dishes and cutlery. A thrift shop set or durable camping gear means you're all set for the perfect picnic without the plastic waste.

So there you have it—a blueprint for a blissful, plastic-free picnic. Here's to making the most of the season and keeping our planet pristine!
